5y - 4x = -7
2y + 4x = 14

We cancel -4x and 4x

5y + 2y = -7 + 14

7y = 7

y = 7/7

y= 1

Use the second equation to find x

2y + 4x = 14

2(1) + 4x = 14

2 + 4x = 14

4x = 14 - 2

4x = 12

x = 12/4

x = 3

Thus, the answer is x=3 and y=1
