Work is simply the product of force and distance, that is:

Work = Force * Distance

In this case, force is simply equivalent to the weifht of the elevator hence:

Work = mass * gravity * distance

Work = 1500 kg * 9.8 m/s^2 * 100 m

Work = 1,470,000 J = 1.47 MJ
